"A Tool for Determining the True Cost of Depression: The Depression Calculator"
Sheryl Bronkesh, MBA, President, and Jim Hendrix, Vice President, Research, The HSM Group along with Lori Reilly, Deputy Vice President for Policy, PhRMA will demonstrate a new web-based tool developed to enable users to calculate the total cost burden of depression in the workplace. The tool allows users to input their specific company attributes, such as size, industry, and geographic region in order to estimate the amount of absenteeism/productivity time lost to depression each year. The calculator estimates the extent to which better depression treatment will improve the company's missed workdays, replacement costs, medical costs, and overall savings. Users are able to manipulate many of the model parameters to come up with their own estimates. The model is backed by a large number of recent articles showing the positive workplace effects of treating depression.
